Becoming Re-Storied: A Weekend Retreat of Story, Self-Exploration, and Empathic Encounter
August 21-23, 2020
November 13-15, 2020
Cost per person: $350 suggested cost (sliding scale payment options available). All expenses included, including five meals. Limited to 8 people.
Description: Our stories are drowning in the noise of our world. We are not listening well to each other, or to ourselves. Despite our global connectedness, we often feel estranged from even our neighbors. And yet, the call is clear for the need for us all to play our part in healing the divisions around us. It can be difficult to know where to begin—especially if we do not know and own our story. But we all have medicine to offer the world, and we can find it through story.
Over a weekend at the gorgeous Bethany Retreat House in Dickson, Tennessee, you are invited to join me for an exploration into story. With a group of eight, we will turn and face ourselves, delving into our own personal narratives, encountering with empathy the stories of each other, practicing deep listening, and envisioning how our stories can lead us toward a fruitful engagement with the needs of the world.
What the world truly needs is more people who are awake and alive to themselves. Learning and owning our stories is part of what will help us to get there.
What Retreatants Have Said
“Becoming Re-storied is a retreat like no other. It is at once a reconnection with your personal journey through life embracing its beauty and ugliness, and a rite of passage of sorts where you capture glimmers of who you are meant to be in this world, and how you can use your gifts to affect positive change … Michael is a rare gift of a facilitator, and this retreat was one of the most worthwhile weekends I have ever spent.”
— Julie from Maryville
“Michael McRay is a skillful midwife for deep story. What a safe and meaningful journey…”
— Rita from Nashville
“Perfect mix of internal exploration and reflection in small group setting. I can honestly say I will never listen to someone’s story the same way again! My heart grew…”
— Sherri from Chattanooga
“A fulfilling and mind calming retreat. I now know how I can convey my personal story to others and receive and honor others’ stories as a gift from them to me.”
— Sherry from Nashville
“Amazing retreat … Michael deftly guided us as we found our stories. So rewarding and thoughtfully constructed. Honored to have shared life [that] weekend with such amazing humans. Just what I needed to reconnect with myself.”
— Kim from Nashville
“I came in all bundled up with nerves … I left rested, restored, and re-storied.”
— Susan from Nashville
“The retreat was an encounter with kindness and a reunion with curiosity … Through sharing, I feel I’ve received my own story–with more wonder. A delightful paradox.”
— Nina from Nashville
“From the first evening to the closing gathering, Michael employed a series of simple yet profound exercises that helped me connect with my personal journey … I began to see glimpses of my life’s script in ways that I had not noticed before. Michael’s experiences and sensitivities developed through his reconciliation work around the world has given him a rare talent … ”
— E.B. from Nashville
“… A wonderful experience that I highly recommend … Michael is an excellent facilitator and teacher and creates a very safe space for honest sharing and self-work. Unlike many retreats that sometimes want to tear you down emotionally and then build you back up – this had none of that traumatic process, although we entered very personal and emotional areas – it was in a safe and uplifting manner.”
— JG from Nashville, TN
